Kenny Sailors Honored as Top Athlete

Is Candidate for National Award

Lieut. Kenny Sailors of the marine corps., Wyoming's all-American basketball captain last year, has been given another honor to compliment his fine athletic record.

The former Laramie high school and university ace was awarded the James E. Sullivan memorial award as the outstanding amateur athlete in the Rocky Mountain region for 1943.

Sailors led his Cowboy cagers to the national basketball championship last winter. The Punchers' sensational season was climaxed by their overtime 52-47 win from St. John's in Madison Square Garden.

Selection of Sailors by the Rocky Mountain A.A.U. committee makes him a nominee for the national James E. Sullivan Memorial trophy annually awarded to the top amateur athlete in the nation.

News of the honor to Lieutenant Sailors arrived here the same day that it was announced that his brother, Capt. Barton E. Sailors had received the Air Medal.
